Our Team
Thomas Mutch-Burrows
Hi, I’m Thomas — co-founder and Speech and Language Therapy Lead here at The Stammer Space. I’m a specialist speech and language therapist, and I help people who stammer (and their families) feel more confident managing their stammer.
I trained at the University of Manchester and have worked as a therapist across both the NHS and private practice, supporting people of all ages.
I am a member of the National Stammering Clinical Excellence Network and have had additional postgraduate training from the Michael Palin Centre.
I started The Stammer Space because I wanted therapy to feel more flexible and joined-up — where speech and language therapy and mental health support work side by side. My aim is to give you the tools and confidence to take charge of your communication, with support from professionals who really understand stammering.
Lucy Mutch-Burrows
My name is Lucy and I am a fully qualified and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and co-founder of The Stammer Space.
Working within the NHS and in private practice, I have gained extensive experience with a wide range of clients struggling with various psychological, emotional and behavioural problems. I provide a safe and confidential therapeutic space, adapting therapy to the needs of the individual.
My approach to therapy is evidence based, which means I utilise a broad range of ‘tried and tested’ evidence-based practices. I incorporate other approaches into my work such as Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness.
Within my practice, I pride myself in being able to create a collaborative, friendly and informal atmosphere. Trust, confidentiality, and humour are extremely important to me as part of maintaining a sound working relationship between myself and my clients.
Stammering often brings significant emotional and psychological challenges, such as anxiety, low confidence, and avoidance of social situations. Within CBT sessions, I aim to offer tools to help individuals understand and manage the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that arise around speaking, support them to build self-esteem and reduce fear or shame.
